Equine Diagnostic Imaging
animal types
equineOur equine imaging experts offer a full range of technologies to diagnose and inform treatment options for your horse. Supervised by three double-board-certified radiologists in equine diagnostic imaging, our team provides quick, accurate, and detailed results.
A dedicated member of the equine anesthesia and pain management service will be assigned exclusively to the task of closely monitoring your animal’s vitals and potential side effects during any procedure requiring pain management or anesthesia.
Specialized technology
Our state-of-the art equipment accommodates the medical imaging needs of large animals, including performance and sport horses, wool and fiber animals, cattle, and other farm animals.
Computed tomography (CT) scanner
Canon Aquilion LB Exceed with Qalibra Platform
This unique CT allows for standing sedated exams of the limbs up to the carpus and tarsus, as well as the head and first two cervical vertebrae. The 90 cm bore can image up to the third thoracic vertebra, proximal extremities, and pelvis under anesthesia. Learn more about the Qalibra platform.
Radiology (X-ray) machines
Imperial Imaging Indico 100 Varex 92 Tube, Sound 90/30 Portable, Sound 90/10 Portable Unit, and Portable Machine 8.0 kW
We perform radiographic examinations of the axial skeleton, thorax, and abdomen for large animal patients, as well as some contrast studies including esophagrams, myelograms (can be done in conjunction with CT imaging if indicated), and intra-articular injections. Our portable machines allow us to offer imaging not only in our X-ray suite, but also stall side and in livestock, depending on the needs of the patient.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner
Siemens Skyra 3T
Using some of the most up-to-date technology in the field today, our MRI provides high-resolution, detailed imaging for equine patients of the limb from the tarsus and carpus to the foot, as well as the head. Studies are assessed by our radiologists in real time to ensure each patient received the most accurate study for their needs. MRI is also available for small livestock patients.
Nuclear scintigraphy
MiE Equine Scanner H.R.
The gamma camera is utilized for equine musculoskeletal scintigraphy to help detect potential causes of lameness or poor performance in horses. It can be useful in areas that may be difficult to image with other imaging modalities, such as the axial skeleton.
Ultrasound machines
Sound LOGIQ E10 and Canon Aplio i700
Our experienced radiologists can evaluate soft tissues and musculoskeletal injuries throughout the limb, spine, pelvis, thorax, and abdomen. This imaging modality is routinely used by our radiologists for interventional procedures to treat tendons, ligaments, and joints with orthobiologics. Ultrasound can also be used to image hard-to-X-ray anatomy (such as the equine pelvis) to help diagnosis fractures or other injuries.
