About Jacqueline

Dr. Jacqueline Cavalcanti grew up in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She always had cats at home, and they were the reason why she decided to dedicate her life to veterinary medicine. Her journey in the field of veterinary medicine, specifically surgery, has been marked by extensive education, dedication, and commitment. Dr. Cavalcanti earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, a renowned veterinary school in Brazil, in 2007. She then worked for a couple of years as a general practitioner for a couple of years before completing a small animal surgery residency in 2011 at the same university she graduated from. After working for a few years as a surgeon in Brazil, Dr. Cavalcanti and her family moved to the U.S.A.

She completed the Educational Commission of Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certification, which is proof of educational equivalency assessment. It consists of four steps, including a 3-day hand-on clinical veterinary medical skills. She completed rotating, medical oncology and surgical oncology internships at Virginia-Maryland, Michigan State University, and University of Florida. She attended the University of Illinois' small animal surgery residency program. Dr. Cavalcanti became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). After a couple of years working as a surgeon in private practice in Texas, she decided to pursue a surgical oncology fellowship at the Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Cavalcanti loves outdoors activities, spending time with her husband, daughter, family, and friends. She also likes to travel with her family, who is mainly based in Brazil.
