About Kimberly

Kimberly Shelton is an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Microbiology. She developed her passion for studying Microbiology and her fascination with infectious diseases throughout previous coursework and opportunities prior to entering college. Within the Dean lab, she has primarily helped with the development of an oral rotavirus vaccine using the bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus as a vector and the evaluation of this vaccine construct's immunogenicity in mice. She is currently helping with the development of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine using the same approach, and will likely continue to be involved in the improvement and future development of more rotavirus vaccine constructs using Lactobacillus acidophilus. She plans on pursuing a graduate degree in the Microbiology field after her undergraduate education and a career within infectious disease research. Outside of the lab, Kimberly enjoys spending time with friends and family engaged in outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and skiing, and she also enjoys volunteering at a local museum.
