Dr. Smeak graduated in 1979 from Michigan State University; Small Animal Rotating Internship from Colorado State University; Small Animal Surgery Residency from The Ohio State University; Board Certified Small Animal Surgeon in 1986; Retired from Professorship and Chief of Surgery positions at OSU in 2007. Hospital Director, Colorado State University, 2008; Currently Professor and Chief of Surgery, Dental and Oral Surgery Sections. CSU Outstanding Academic Advising Award; Referral Specialist Veterinarian of the Year (awarded 3 years); Norden Distinguished Teaching Award; OSU Dean’s Award for Outstanding Clinical Teaching Award; OSU Merck Award for Teaching Creativity; Fulbright Scholarship Award; William and Eleanor Cave National Award for Outstanding Achievement in Developing Animal Alternatives for Surgery Training; Waltham International Award for Outstanding Continuing Education.
