About Matt

Matt is a research scientist in the Abdo lab and affiliated with the USDA National Wildlife Research Center. His main research interests are in the field of molecular ecology. Specifically, he employs genomic approaches towards the study and management of wildlife populations and associated pathogens. During his time in the Abdo lab he has worked on avian influenza viruses in wild birds, vector-borne pathogens of humans and animals, and wildlife reservoirs of rabies virus. Outside of the lab Matt enjoys fly fishing, hiking, reading, Star Trek, listening to music on vinyl, and craft beer.
