About Laurel

I am originally from Massachusetts and earned my undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Vermont. I am in the combined DVM/PhD program at CSU and completed my PhD in 2025. My thesis work was aimed at understanding mechanisms that drive the strong predilection for the bone cancer osteosarcoma to metastasize to the lungs. Specifically, I studied how osteosarcoma tumor-secreted extracellular vesicles can traffic through the body to the lungs and impact resident immune cells. I am passionate about veterinary pathology and comparative immunology and hope to pursue a career in this following completion of my veterinary degree. Outside of the lab, I can usually be found somewhere in the great outdoors of Colorado, hiking, biking, rock climbing, or skiing. I also enjoy pottery and spending time with my two dogs Finley and Elisa.
