About Joni

Joni Nelson was born and raised in Kiowa, Colorado in Elbert County where she grew up raising cattle and sheep and riding horses. She continues to help with the family sheep business. She was very active in 4-H, showing beef, dairy, sheep, and hogs. Joni graduated from Colorado State University in 2008 with an animal science and speech communication degree. She then went to Front Range Community College and graduated with a degree in veterinary technology. Joni has been in the veterinary field for 15 years as a Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary experience includes an equine veterinary technician for 2 years, an exotic veterinary technician for 2 years, a small animal veterinary technician for 11 years, and a veterinary practice manager for 5 years.

Joni has a daughter Olivia who enjoys the outdoors, dancing, and dinosaurs. She currently has 3 dogs: Loretta a Chihuahua, Maple an Australian Shepherd, Lizzie a Corgi and two cats Simon and Eugene. In Joni’s spare time, she enjoys competing with Maple in agility dog trials, decorating cakes, spending time with family, and going to sheep shows.
