Loretta chose the University of Denver for graduate school, for its Institute for Human-Animal Connection and animal-assisted social work specialization. Loretta obtained her master’s degree in social work and animal-assisted social work certification from the University of Denver in 2017. Loretta has experience providing animal-assisted individual therapy to children in residential treatment with her therapy dog, Teddy, in addition to facilitating canine and equine therapy groups. Before joining the Argus team, Loretta worked as a counselor in the adoption field, focusing on crisis intervention and grief and loss. As a member of the Argus team, Loretta provides support to pet families who are making challenging health decisions, experiencing grief and loss, and assessing quality-of-life and end-of-life considerations for their beloved animal family members. Loretta also provides support for veterinary professionals, focusing on self-care and wellness education. Loretta moved to Fort Collins from Denver, and she lives with her two pups, Teddy, a sweet and laid-back Australian Shepherd mix, and Elsa, a spunky and bubbly dachshund mix. In her free time, Loretta enjoys reading, trying out new recipes, and taking her dogs on mountain adventures.
