Nicole Kelp

Assistant Professor Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology

About Nicole

Dr. Kelp attended Washington State University, earning a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a BS in Genetics and Cell Biology, followed by a PhD in Molecular Biosciences. Her dissertation research focused on non-classical progesterone signaling in the uterus during pregnancy and cancer. Upon the completion of her education, she stayed at WSU as instructional faculty in the School of Molecular Biosciences. As an Instructor, she taught microbiology and genetics, participated in biology education research, and led departmental efforts to develop science communication curriculum for undergraduates. Dr. Kelp has brought this passion for science education, science communication, and curriculum development to Colorado State. At CSU, she is involved in developing and teaching the basic science curriculum for the new Fort Collins branch of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, providing content expertise in genetics/biochemistry, hematology, endocrinology and reproductive biology, and pathology especially cancer biology. She serves as the Chair of the Medical Science Content Directors for the CU School of Medicine, helping lead curriculum development efforts. Additionally, Dr. Kelp performs research on science communication education, helping develop best practices for preparing the next generation of scientists and clinicians to engage in productive dialogue about scientific advances with each other and with non-scientists. Dr. Kelp also performs research about equitable and effective health communication regarding emerging infectious diseases.
