About Samirah

Samirah comes from a pharmacy background and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in toxicology at Colorado State University. Her academic and professional journey is driven by a deep curiosity about how chemicals and pharmaceuticals interact with biological systems. She currently works in a research lab using C. elegans to study the potential of pharmaceutical compounds in treating neurodegenerative diseases – an experience that has significantly strengthened her research skills and scientific perspective.

Her passion for toxicology was sparked by a public health crisis involving botulinum toxin in her home country, Saudi Arabia. Witnessing the impact of toxic exposure on individuals and communities inspired her to focus her career on understanding and preventing toxicological harm. Before moving to the U.S., Samirah earned her PharmD and worked across various healthcare settings, from specialty hospitals to community pharmacies. These experiences helped her build a strong foundation in medication safety, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Outside of academics, Samirah is passionate about science communication and public outreach. She has created award-winning educational videos, designed engaging scientific posters, and enjoys making complex topics more accessible to broader audiences. She has also participated in community service projects and volunteer forums, where she has bridged her scientific background with real-world impact.

In her free time, Samirah enjoys road trips, hiking, and spending time with her cat, who reminds her to appreciate life’s small joys. Through her work and studies, she aims to contribute to the scientific community in a way that is thoughtful, culturally aware, and deeply engaged with real-world issues.
