Salaries

While salaries vary across type/sector of employment (e.g., private/public), the mean starting salaries provide some indication of what graduates can expect to earn. The mean starting salary for a 2021 CSU D.V.M. graduate who did not pursue further advanced education was $98,000 for private and $93,000 for public; versus a national salary of $97,000 and $85,000 respectively. Almost half (44%) of the 2021 graduates expect to earn additional compensation by pursuing options such as a signing bonus, emergency case work, moving allowance, etc.

Employment

At the time of graduation, 96% of 2021 CSU D.V.M. graduates had accepted a position in veterinary medicine or were admitted to an advanced education program. Graduates accepted employment in private practice (54%), in the public or corporate sector (7%), or continued with advanced education including internships, residencies, and graduate programs (39%). Of the graduates who sought advanced educational opportunities, 87% accepted a position in that area.

Educational Debt

Among 2021 CSU D.V.M. graduates with educational debt, the average debt amount was $207,811 compared to the U.S. national average of $201,863. The average educational debt including those with no debt for CSU graduates in 2021 was $178,124 compared to the U.S. national average of $168,654.
