Genetic study of idiopathic epilepsy clinical cases in dogs

Purpose

To obtain a DNA sample from dogs that have been diagnosed and are currently being treating, or newly diagnosed pets, for idiopathic epilepsy. These pets do not have to be on any specific diet, can be at any stage of seizure management, and can be either sensitive or resistant to anti-epileptic drug (AED) therapy.

Process

Simply a 30 second swab inside the cheek to obtain an adequate saliva sample.

Benefits

No direct incentive to the client but with the information obtained we hope to be able to have a better understand of the genes associated with idiopathic epilepsy in order to better diagnose, manage, and treat this disease in our canine companions.
