Financial Resources

If you’re a current D.V.M. student, log in to the intranet to view additional financial resources.

A financial advisor can review your financial circumstances to help guide you through and beyond the D.V.M. Program. Our advisor can help you understand tuition costs, explore financial aid opportunities and scholarships, and more.

Get Started

Apply for Financial Aid

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for all types of financial aid. For more information about beginning the financial aid application process, visit the Office of Financial Aid.

Financial Tips

Track your expenses to ensure you stick to your budget.

  • Use an app or website designed for tracking expenses.
  • Try the cash method for discretionary expenses: take out what you need for the week for expenses like food, coffee, and entertainment, and once the cash is gone, stop spending until the following week.

Tuition and Fees

Scholarships

Our veterinary program issues over one million dollars in scholarships to second-, third-, and fourth-year students. Because of the timing of our application and admissions deadlines, we cannot offer scholarships to incoming students. Incoming first-year students are encouraged to explore external scholarships:

Loans

Federal Loans

  • Health Professions Loan – up to $10,000
  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan – up to $40,500
  • Graduate PLUS Loan – up to cost of attendance minus other financial aid

Visit the Office of Financial Aid for more information about eligibility, disbursement, interest rates, fees, deferment, and repayment for these types of loans.

Tips for Applying for and Accepting Loans

  • Include parent financial information in your FAFSA
    • Including parent information is the only way you will be considered for the Health Professions Loan. This includes if you are financially independent. Age and amount of time you have been financially independent does not play a factor.
    • Parent information will be removed from your FAFSA before other loans are awarded; parent financial information will NOT limit the amount of other loans you will be offered.
  • Know how much you need before you accept loans
    • Write down all monthly expenses and multiply by number of months in that semester.
    • If you have savings or family contributions you can use, subtract those from living expenses (leave at least $1,000 in savings for emergencies).
    • Take only the amount of loans you need for that semester (ensure you calculate origination fees, as these will be subtracted from the loans before they are funded).
    • You have until finals week to accept more loan money in the event of an unexpected expense that emergency funds won’t cover.
  • Accept loans in the following order:
    • Health Professions Loan (if offered)
    • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan
    • Graduate PLUS Loan

Grants

  • Colorado Graduate Grant – up to $3,000
