Admissions Appeals for Transfer Students

Environmental Public Health Concentration

The environmental public health concentration in the biomedical sciences major accepts admissions appeals from internal and external transfer students who do not meet direct entry requirements into the major. Incoming first-year students are not eligible to file an appeal.

Direct entry requirements:

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher (4.0 scale)
  • Grades of B or better in:
    • one semester of Biology/Lab (equivalent to LIFE 102, Attributes of Living Systems/Lab) and
    • one semester of Chemistry/Lab (equivalent to CHEM 111/112, General Chemistry I/Lab)

Admissions appeal process:

Students may submit an appeal after completing the equivalent of CHEM 113/114 (General Chemistry II/Lab) if they earn a C or higher in each. Appeals should be no longer than 500 words and contain:

  1. Reasons for wanting to pursue environmental public health. Include information on how this program and coursework relate to your career goals.
  2. Describe the challenges in your academic performance and how you are actively overcoming them.
  3. Why do you think you are an excellent candidate for this program?

Email appeals to the Environmental Public Health Admissions Committee at Decisions will be emailed to the requestor in 3-4 weeks. If granted, the appeal only applies to the environmental public health concentration and students cannot transfer into other concentrations in the biomedical sciences major.
