About Traci

Dr. Kinkel received her BA from Colorado State University in the Microbiology Dept and is now back to share her enthusiasm about Microbiology with undergraduate students. Dr. Kinkel has spent many years conducting research in Microbiology, investigating the link between microbial physiology and virulence of several Gram-positive bacterial pathogens. Dr. Kinkel is a Lab Coordinator for the CURE Labs (MIP401) and a co-instructor for MIP425 Virology & Cell Culture lab class. Dr. Kinkel also participates in teaching MIP150, Introduction to Research Methods, helping students learn essential laboratory research skills. In addition to teaching, Dr. Kinkel also manages the media prep kitchen and handles the virology and cell culture sample preparation. Dr. Kinkel is a recipient of the 2024 Best Teacher Award.
