About Nicholas

Nicholas Whittel is a Ph.D. student in the Slayden Laboratory, as part of the Mycobacteria Research Laboratories. He graduated with a BSc in Biology from The State University of New York at Geneseo in 2018. He held multiple undergraduate teaching titles across Microbiology, General Biology, and Public Health and Epidemiology courses. In 2017, he helped lead a teaching team across Ghana, focusing on Schistosomiasis transmission in peri-urban and rural communities. Nicholas graduated with an MSc in Infectious Diseases from the University of Kent in 2019, where he studied the electrochemical requirements of Multidrug and Toxic Compound Extrusion (MATE) proteins. He was recently awarded a Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Student Traineeship Award and has been developing a CF model of exogenous reinfection as part of his Ph.D. thesis.
