About Natalie

Natalie graduated from Berry College in 2016 with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Spanish with minors in Chemistry and One Health. In 2018, she completed a master's degree in Global Health at Duke University with a research focus on developing network models to better understand disease transmission among small mammals in Madagascar. As a Foreign Language and Area Studies fellow at Duke, she worked to achieve proficiency in the K'iche' Maya language to further her career goal of working with underserved populations in the highlands of Guatemala. From 2018-2019, she conducted a risk-based surveillance study on emerging mosquito-borne arboviruses circulating in wildlife and domestic animals in Mongolia. Immediately prior to her studies at CSU, she worked on mosquito- and tick-borne disease surveillance and ecology as a laboratory specialist at Virginia Tech. Her research interests include understanding the ecology of vector-borne diseases, surveillance of emerging and reemerging pathogens, and GIS-based applications for modeling pathogen circulation in reservoir populations.
