Luisa Nieto Ramirez

Luisa is a Research Scientist at Dr. Dobos's laboratory. She earned her bachelor's degree in Bacteriology and Clinical laboratory from Universidad del Valle, Colombia. Her research started as a young investigator, focusing on molecular epidemiological studies of Mycobacterium tuberculosis multidrug and extensively drug-resistant strains in Colombia. Luisa completed her PhD in Microbiology at Colorado State University, studying the proteomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic changes (mainly mycolic acids) in Mycobacterium tuberculosis after the acquisition of isoniazid resistance and evaluating the virulence of drug-resistant strains in the mouse model. After receiving the Pew Latin American Fellowship, she conducted her postdoctoral research on drug tolerance in Streptococcus pneumoniae, using in vitro and in vivo approaches at Boston College. Her experience also includes the method optimization for single-cell transcriptomics for both bacteria and host cells. Currently, her research experience has expanded in the field of targeted proteomics and her goals include exploring the host-pathogen interaction using novel methods such as mass spectrometry imaging. Luisa also has served as a professor in her home country where she promoted research in clinical microbiology, among young Scientists. She is Colombia's corresponding member and national representative for The Latin American Confederation of Clinical Biochemistry, COLABIOCLI, from 2022 to 2024. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Luisa is known for being a big fan of her family and her Colombian and Latin American culture.
