Jebrail Dempsey

Jebrail Dempsey is a Ph.D. student in the TEAM VIDA & Foy labs at Colorado State University. Jebrail’s primary research focus is on understanding malaria parasite (Plasmodium spp.) genomics and how this influences community transmission dynamics. For this research, she has done work to sequence human samples infected with Plasmodium to elucidate any predictive factors for malaria infections.

She became interested in pursuing a career in research after joining a research project at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, during her undergraduate degree. Under her PI and graduate students, she assisted with investigating the impact of circadian rhythm of plant defense mechanisms. Following graduation, she worked in a clinical/translational research laboratory at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, studying the relationship between protein synthesis and acute myeloid leukemia. She managed and maintained a flow cytometry core and an extensive mouse colony. Outside of lab, Jebrail enjoys traveling, chai lattes, picnics, and exploring Colorado.
