About Adele

Adele is a postdoctoral fellow with the Avanzi lab at Colorado State University. She focuses on leprosy pathogen genomics, transmission dynamics of the disease, and drug resistance. Adele became interested in disease history and pathogen evolution during her undergraduate studies in biology at Grinnell College. After graduating, she joined the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History to develop a database of scientific collections and help build a reference DNA barcode library. Adele then pursued her PhD in evolutionary biology with the Stone lab at Arizona State University. Her dissertation covered the evolutionary genetics and spatial dynamics of Mycobacterium leprae in the Pacific and Brazil.
