Shari graduated from Colorado State University in 2006 with her D.V.M. and concurrently received her certification in veterinary acupuncture (CVA). She received certifications in pain management (CVPP) in 2012 and rehabilitation (CCRT) in 2013. She went into small animal general practice for a few years before teaching anatomy, ethics, acupuncture, and case studies at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine from 2009-2015. She then returned to Colorado for small animal general practice, also teaching in a veterinary acupuncture course in Colorado, a canine studies course in California, returning to higher education full time at Colorado State University in 2018. She currently teaches an online veterinary histology, online undergraduate histology, and online undergraduate animal anatomy course and is the program director for the Veterinary Clinical Care Graduate Program (MSB VCC) at Colorado State University.
She specializes in universal design, online learning, and neurodiverse learning. Her current focus is course mapping of preclinical online material for the MSB VCC program and incorporation of models and simulations in online and face-to-face learning. In 2023, she received the Provost’s N. Preston Davis Award for Instructional Innovation. This award recognizes technology-related instructional innovation or the significant encouragement of such innovation. It is named for N. Preston Davis, who retired in 1992 after serving the CSU community for more than four decades. In 2024, she received the Faculty Institute for Inclusive Excellence Impact Award. The Faculty Institute for Inclusive Excellence (FIIE) Impact Award recognizes efforts by FIIE fellows who have made significant contributions towards exemplifying the mission of the FIIE toward increasing inclusive excellence in the following areas: departmental culture, classroom climate, curricular redesign, or pedagogical implementation. The award provides an important opportunity for the university to celebrate the contributions of our community toward increasing inclusive excellence at CSU. In 2024, she received the Teaching Effectiveness Fellow Award.
