About Paula

Paula Lado is a Postdoctoral fellow in the Foy lab, at the Center of Vector-Borne Infectious Diseases. Paula is a vector biologist passionate about parasites and vector-borne diseases (VBDs). During her postgraduate education she focused on ticks, and tick-borne diseases (TBDs). Paula’s expertise includes ticks molecular systematics, TBDs, phylogenetics, population genetics, microbiome, and phylogeography. Her broad interests in basic and applied science, as well as different vectors and VBDs systems brought her to the Foy lab where she will focus on insecticide resistance of Anopheles mosquitoes in the context of a clinical trial (RIMDAMAL II) to control malaria in west Africa. RIMDAMAL aims at preventing and controlling malaria through mass drug administration (MDA) of ivermectin (IVM) to human populations. In addition to her work on malaria transmission and the effects of IVM MDA, Paula will participate in ongoing arbovirus research projects at the Foy lab.
