About Treana

Treana is a postdoctoral research fellow and Ph.D. candidate in veterinary microbiology, currently board eligible for ACVM. She completed a residency in veterinary microbiology at Colorado State University in 2022. Her research focus is the epidemiology and molecular biology of (re)emerging infectious diseases shared between animals and people, such as Echinococcus spp. parasites and highly pathogenic avian influenza.

Her undergraduate and D.V.M. training from the University of Minnesota was focused on free-roaming wildlife health, with current emphasis on diseases in domestic and wild carnivore species in the Sue VandeWoude research group. She hopes to use the tools of veterinary medicine and cutting-edge disease diagnostics to monitor and adapt to our shared health challenges in a changing future.

Outside of the lab, she enjoys watercolor painting, gardening her backyard habitat area, casual birdwatching, and spending time with her family – her spouse, daughter, a gentle giant dog, and three tabby cats.
