Maria Gore, MSW, is a social worker with the Argus Institute. Maria obtained her master’s in social work at the University of Central Florida. She was previously a veterinary technician and manager at the University of Florida’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Large Animal Hospital. Maria has experience in the hospice field, including work in anticipatory and preparatory grief, as well as bereavement counseling. Maria brings a distinctive set of communication skills in working with a multi-disciplinary team in a veterinary environment. As part of the Argus team, Maria provides in-house support to pet owners and staff, as well as community clients referred to the Argus Institute’s support services. This includes quality-of-life conversations, assisting with resources, education and grief support. Maria is enthusiastic about helping veterinary professionals manage compassion fatigue and burnout. She has presented numerous workshops with this focus at both the state and national level. Maria moved to Colorado from Florida, where her Quarter Horse mare, Silky, still resides on her family’s farm. Maria lives in Fort Collins with her wife, Lori, their corgi mix, Milo and their geriatric cat, Emmylou.
