Hematopathology

Tumors of the hematopoietic system are the most common types of cancer in canine and feline patients, and many of these diseases have human counterparts. The Hematopathology-focused faculty work toward understanding these diseases. Collectively they investigate the pathogenesis, genetics and epidemiology of lymphoma, leukemia and other hematopoietic neoplasms in dogs and cats, and how these diseases may help us better understand similar cancers in people. Sophisticated diagnostics, developed and offered by the Clinical Hematopathology Laboratory, are foundational to these efforts. The Hematopathology faculty are internationally recognized for work in molecular diagnostics, immunoglobulin studies, and clinical and anatomic pathology focused on hematopoietic cancers.
