About Alan

Dr. Schenkel studies the roles of adhesion molecules in leukocyte extravasation (exit from blood into tissues) in response to inflammation. Many of these molecules control how different populations of leukocytes, such as monocytes or lymphocytes, can respond spatially and temporally to infection and disease. In particular, Dr. schenkel is interested in pulmonary (lung) diseases, like Cystic Fibrosis and Idiopathic Pulmonary fibrosis. Dr. Schenkel currently serves as the Director of the MIP Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program.
