About Lauren
Dr. Lauren Smanik is an Ohio native, completing both her undergraduate education in animal sciences and her DVM at The Ohio State University. Upon graduating from vet school in 2016, she completed a 1-year rotating equine internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center, a private referral hospital in Ringoes, NJ. She then completed an academic internship in large animal medicine, surgery, and critical care at University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. Dr. Smanik completed her 3-year residency in equine surgery and lameness here at CSU in July 2021. Dr. Smanik’s research interests include subchondral bone pathology associated with osteochondral disease, with a focus on palmar osteochondral disease and prevention of subchondral bone attrition and overgrowth in various disease states. Dr. Smanik is a lifelong equestrian and grew up competing Quarter Horses in a variety of disciplines. Her other hobbies include tracking work with her two Redbone Coonhounds for big game recovery and rock climbing.
