Irradiation Services Laboratory

The Irradiation Services Laboratory at Colorado State University is dedicated to delivering accurate, accessible, and dependable ionizing radiation services for researchers at CSU and beyond. Supported applications include the irradiation of molecular compounds, biological cultures (human, animal, and microbial), plant materials, and electronic components.

We provide comprehensive experimental and dosimetry consultation with experienced experts to ensure accurate dose planning, delivery, and reporting tailored to each study’s specific needs.

Services

Sample irradiation

The facility supports a broad spectrum of source activities and dose rates to accommodate diverse experimental needs from biological, material, and engineering studies. Each radiation field is thoroughly characterized, and dosimetry services are provided to ensure precise and reproducible exposures.

Dosimetry and quality assurance

Accurate dose measurements, mapping, and modeling ensure your project’s requirements are met.

Sterilization and decontamination

Radiation processing for microbial reduction in biological samples, materials, or specialized equipment.

Research support

Flexible services for academic, government, and industry partners, including experimental design guidance and technical expertise.

Equipment and facility

The laboratory offers both gamma and neutron irradiation capabilities to support a wide range of research applications. Current equipment includes an array of well-characterized cesium-137 irradiators for gamma exposure, as well as a neutron facility.

The facility supports a broad spectrum of source activities and dose rates to accommodate diverse experimental needs. Each radiation field is thoroughly characterized, and dosimetry services are provided to ensure precise and reproducible exposures.

Our facilities have been characterized using NIST traceable sources and ATSM standardized techniques.
