By pairing the Qalibra platform with the Canon Aquilion LB Exceed CT machine, our Equine Diagnostic Imaging service offers high-quality imaging of more parts of the horse than before, all under short or no general anesthesia. Our experienced, board-certified equine radiologists provide consultation services for both in-house patients and outpatient referrals. We also offer same-day outpatient imaging in cases that do not require anesthesia.

The Qalibra accommodates sedated standing exams of the distal extremities up to the carpus or tarsus, as well as the head and first two cervical vertebrae. The 90 cm bore can image up to the third thoracic vertebrae, proximal extremities, and pelvis under anesthesia. The Qalibra CT also offers the possibility of seeing bone contusions, an injury that has traditionally been limited to MRI and bone scans. The specialized platform allows the CT to move directly to the patient, instead of a table moving the patient through the bore with a table.

Imaging capabilities:

  • Standing, high-resolution 3D examinations of the equine head and lower limbs (carpus and hock down) without general anesthesia
  • Identification of some soft-tissue injuries (including the deep digital flexor tendon and cartilage)
  • Imaging of the whole equine neck, pelvis, and all parts of the hind limbs under a short anesthesia
