Feline aging blood (FAB) collection
Neurodegenerative diseases, such as dementia, are a growing concern in dogs and cats, especially because animals are living longer due to better healthcare and nutrition practices. This study will involve collecting blood from cats over 12 years old to look at their genetic profiles and match them to proteins linked to brain disease. The goal of this research is to find new ways to understand, diagnose, and manage neurodegenerative diseases in cats without the need for intensive testing.
Each study patient and their primary owner must be willing to travel to CSU’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Owners are required to complete surveys about their cat to provide baseline data and therefore, must be familiar with their daily behaviors. During the appointment, each patient will be weighed, examined, and have blood drawn for analysis. Be prepared for the single study appointment to last one to two hours. Cats may be sedated to minimize stress during the appointment.
