Efficacy of medical grade honey on incisional infections in horses undergoing colic surgery
This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of medical grade honey (L-mesitran) to decrease the incidence of incisional infection in the post-operative period in horses undergoing colic surgery. This study is ongoing in several hospitals at the same time and is aiming to improve the wellbeing for horses in the recovery period after colic surgery.

All horses greater than one year of age presenting to the CSU Equine Hospital for emergency celiotomy for treatment of colic are eligible to participate.
