Born and raised in rural Iowa, in a small farming community, I was always bringing home stray and injured animals (much to my parents’ dismay). Studying abroad in Tanzania, spending time with the Maasai tribe while learning basic food security and inter. public health principles broadened my horizons. This inspired me to pursue CSU's MPH/DVM program, furthering my passion for infectious disease research. My MPH capstone/practicum was focused on antimicrobial resistance, biosecurity, and infection control. Throughout vet school, I continued with infectious diseases/zoonoses; mapping rabies outbreak interventions in Brazil, collaborating with veterinarians in Kenya, and studying food safety in Chile. During my PhD/Microbiology residency, learning the operations of a veterinary diagnostic lab, I am also excited to continue working in academia studying infectious disease microbiology, inter. food security, wildlife disease epidemiology, and emerging infectious disease/zoonoses ecology.
