Alexa Spittler
FGT Postdoctoral Microbiology, Immunology, and PathologyAbout Alexa
Alexa is originally from the small town of Morton, Illinois (the Pumpkin Capitol of the World!). She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduated in 2013 with a B.S. in Animal Sciences. She then attended the University of Missouri for veterinary school and received her DVM in 2017. After graduating veterinary school, she moved to Fort Collins to complete a Comparative Medicine residency to combine her passion for both research and clinical medicine. During this time, she also completed a Master’s degree under Dr. Santangelo in 2020. She was then selected by the Clinical and Translational Science Award One Health Alliance (COHA) to complete a postdoctoral translational research fellowship with Dr. Santangelo. Her research interests involve the evaluation of alternative therapeutics for the treatment of pain disorders, and she is currently investigating the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) for osteoarthritis. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, Netflix-binging, spending time with her friends and family, and spoiling her cat Mosby.
