Dr. Nathaniel Denkers joined the Hoover lab in 2005 where he completed his PhD on the ‘Oral and nasal mucosal pathways of prion infection in chronic wasting disease’. Dr. Denker’s research has continued to focus on 1.) the early pathogenesis of CWD across mucosal surfaces 2.) improving the sensitivity/specificity of prion detection in excreta using amplification assays, and 3.) determining the environmental factors involved in the natural transmission of CWD.
