About Carlos
Dr. Carlos Carvajal de la Cerda was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico in 2016 and became a certified farrier through the American Farrier’s Association in 2020.
While attending veterinary school, he recognized the significant need for improved diagnosis and treatment of equine foot pathologies – an observation that inspired him to dedicate his career to equine podiatry. He completed an internship focused on equine sports medicine at EQCOVET in Mexico, where he first developed an interest in the fundamentals of podiatry and began building the foundation for his future specialization.
With seven years of experience as part of the renowned podiatry team at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky, Dr. Carvajal gained extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex foot conditions. During his time there, he also studied the mechanical principles of the equine foot under the mentorship of the renowned Dr. Ric Redden, further strengthening his understanding of the biomechanics behind equine lameness and how to apply it to shoeing to provide the proper healing environment to the foot.
His professional focus includes radiology of the foot and venograms, management of laminitis and foot lameness, therapeutic and corrective shoeing, and standing foot surgery. Dr. Carvajal provides high-quality equine podiatry services to support horses, veterinarians, farriers, and owners alike. He has taught internationally, including with the International Farrier Academy in Mexico and Colombia.
Since 2023, he has also served as an equine podiatry instructor for Colorado State University’s D.V.M. Program, where he contributes to the education of future veterinarians.
Recently, Dr. Carvajal, his incredible wife Veronica, and their young son relocated to Colorado. Together, they enjoy spending time in the state’s beautiful parks, exploring new places, cooking, playing, and taking in the stunning Colorado scenery.
