Ava Borgman

I’m a dual DVM/PhD student. My research interests include how genetics and immunology can inform effective therapeutics for various diseases, particularly through the lens of comparative oncology. I’m also excited by the possibility of getting involved in equine research.

My early interest in veterinarian science has a lot to do with growing up on a small farm and taking care of animals, especially horses. Interning as an undergraduate at the Gardner Lab at Tufts Veterinary School energized me to also pursue research in veterinary medicine. At the Gardner Lab, I researched genetic biomarkers in canine osteosarcoma that have a potential role in predicting disease progression.

When not studying or in the lab, I enjoy horseback riding, playing tennis, reading, and hanging out with my Nigerian Dwarf goat.
