About Amanda

Amanda Hitpas received her bachelor's in Business Administration from Colorado State University. While working on that, she stumbled upon Microbiology and loved it so much that she went on to receive her master's degree in Microbiology-Immunology. Prior to working in the Henao-Tamayo lab, she worked in the Prion Research Center under Dr. Mark Zabel and served as Director of Operations at a small nonprofit literary journal in Fort Collins. She works to manage the day-to-day activities and logistics associated with laboratory experiments, working in both BSL-2 and BSL-3 biosafety settings. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and serving as team support for the lab and beyond. When she's not in the lab, you can find her traveling, spending time with family and friends, hiking with her Labrador, Tanner and Great Pyrenees, Maximus, and wrangling her kitty, Binx.
