About Railey

Railey Mikeska is an undergraduate student at Colorado State University, where she majors in Animal Sciences and minors in Microbiology. She was an employee for the CSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, where she worked in the virology laboratory, and gained valuable information pertaining to virology. She was also enrolled in the CURE (Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences) program at CSU, where she worked under Dr. Traci Kinkel and studied helminth microbiomes. The project she focused on, in the CURE course, aimed to identify potential bacterial endosymbionts of helminths through molecular diagnostics and Gimenez staining. She will be working for Dr. Carolina Mehaffy as a student researcher in the Fall semester of 2022, where she will investigate the detection of inflammatory cytokines, from canine aqueous humor, using proteomics. Railey plans to continue her education after completing her bachelors degree, and hopes to join a bacteriology or mycobacteriology graduate program.
