About Soy

Dr. Soy Kim, a southern California native who graduated veterinary school from Western University of Health Sciences in 2018, is the orthopedic medicine and mobility service's research intern. She completed a small animal rotating internship in Los Angeles and then went on to complete a surgery internship in San Antonio, Texas. During her undergraduate studies in zoology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, she volunteered in animal shelters and worked as a veterinary assistant at an animal rehabilitation clinic, where she was first exposed to animal rehabilitation and physical therapy for post-operative orthopedic and neurosurgery patients. Dr. Kim intends to pursue a surgery residency to become a board-certified small animal surgeon, as she enjoys using her head, hands, and heart to perform surgeries that make a difference in an animal's life. She is looking forward to delving more into orthopedic medicine and developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of how non-surgical approaches can enhance a patient's quality of life. A self-proclaimed "foodie," Dr. Kim loves checking out new restaurants, cafes, and dog-friendly breweries. Outside of work, she likes to spend most of her time reading and going on scenic walks, all the while serving the needs of her bossy and sassy Great Pyrenees mix.
