Julie Starkey is a graduate student in the Microbiology PhD program within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology. Julie is a member of Dr. Richard Slayden's laboratory, and she is currently studying the regulation of bacterial adaptive responses to alternative growth conditions encountered during infection, which includes naturally expanded Toxin-Antitoxin systems encoded in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Her research aims to investigate the potential role of Toxin-Antitoxin systems in M. tuberculosis pathogenesis during infection. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Julie earned a B.S. in Cellular & Molecular Biology at Adams State University.
