About Arielle

Arielle is a Microbiology PhD student co-mentored by Dr. Julie Moreno and Dr. Mark Zabel. Her research focuses on developing a therapeutic for prion diseases using autologous stem cells. She completed her undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Carthage College where she studied the role of astrocytes in stroke. She spent a year as an NIH postbac at Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton, Montana where she studied how Zika virus evades the innate immune response. Wanting to combine her interests in neuroscience and microbiology, she chose to pursue a PhD at CSU to study prion diseases. In her free time, she enjoys climbing, hiking, backpacking, and skiing.
