My project is focused on flavivirus 5' RNA capping mechanisms and defining how the RNA structure and sequence affect capping efficiency. I am also working on characterizing the relationship between flavivirus RNA capping and host RNA decay pathways. By understanding such mechanisms, we can potentially get closer to developing antiviral drugs for flaviviruses. My projects require a wide range of biochemical techniques used for both RNA and protein work including ddPCR, focus forming assays, and in vitro RNA capping assays.
I received my B.S. from CSU where I majored in biochemistry and molecular biology. As an undergraduate, I was fascinated by viral mechanisms and knew I wanted to pursue a research career in this field. Outside of lab, I love golfing, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
