Megan is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate at Colorado State University in the Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology Department. She obtained her B.S. at New Mexico State University while working for Dr. Kathryn Hanley to determine mosquito species from samples collected in Borneo. She then worked at NIH/NIAID Rocky Mountain Laboratories with Dr. Vincent Munster to evaluated the replication of Filoviruses on cells derived from different bat species and the impact of temperature on replication. Her current dissertation research is on factors that affect Aedes-borne arbovirus transmission and disease. She focuses on the effects of transmission route and biological sex on ZIKV outcome and the role of defective interfering particles on arbovirus transmission. she uses techniques involving animal model, next-generation sequencing, vector biology and virology in her research and has experience in BSL-3 laboratory settings.
