Frequently Asked Questions
Admission requirements
Which semester can I apply for?
We only offer spring and fall admission.
What is the application deadline?
- Fall admission deadline: April 1
- Spring admission deadline: September 1
Do I need to secure a faculty advisor before applying to the program?
Yes! Before applying and to be considered for this program, applicants must secure the support of a faculty advisor. Explore our list of faculty research areas, then contact potential faculty advisors who share your research interest(s) to ask whether they will advise and have the resources to support you as a graduate student.
A faculty advisor confirmed their support. What should I do next?
Please email our graduate coordinator for the M.S. thesis program, Amber Trice, at [email protected] to confirm the advisor’s commitment. After that, be sure to complete and submit your application to the program.
Can I apply to the program without first securing a faculty advisor?
While you may submit an application, we strongly advise against doing so without confirming a faculty advisor, as this is a requirement for admission. Applications without an identified advisor will not be reviewed and will be withdrawn at the end of the application cycle if no advisor is secured.
Is the GRE required?
The GRE is not required for admission. If applicants choose to include GRE scores, they are welcome to do so, but they are not used as a requirement for review.
Does your department offer application fee waivers?
No, the Department of Biomedical Sciences does not offer application fee waivers, but the Graduate School offers application fee waivers to participants in specific, eligible programs, as well as Free Graduate Application Days throughout the year.
Do I have to upload official transcripts?
Unofficial transcripts can be uploaded for review, but official transcripts will be required for admission.
If I am accepted, when do I graduate?
Our M.S. thesis program typically takes two to three years to complete, assuming all other course requirements are fulfilled.
I applied to the incorrect M.S. program. What do I do now?
First, identify which program you meant to apply for and double check their admission deadline. We offer three different M.S. programs in biomedical sciences:
- Master of Science in biomedical sciences [thesis]
- Master of Science in biomedical sciences, anatomical and physiological sciences specialization [1-year]
- Master of Science in biomedical sciences, assisted reproductive technologies specialization [1-year]
Next, email [email protected] with your full name, which program you applied for, and which program you meant to apply for.
We will then submit a program change request form that will allow you to chance to the correct program without submitting a new application. Please keep application deadlines in mind, as being eligible to transfer into a different program does not guarantee that the program is still accepting applications.
Can I schedule an appointment to talk with someone about the program?
Yes, please complete our contact form to schedule a Zoom/phone call.
