MIP Department Seminar: Brian Murphy, UC DavisWednesday, March 26, 2025, 9 - 9:50amPlease join us at 9AM on Wednesday March 26, in Animal Sciences 161 to hear from Brian Murphy, DVM, PhD., a professor in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at UC Davis. He has interdependent research, instruction and diagnostic missions. He began his veterinary career as a small animal practitioner near Seattle, Washington, where he practiced for 8 years.
A passion for teaching and a desire to discover eventually landed him in a concurrent pathology residency and graduate training programs at Washington State University. After completing his residency and PhD in 2007, he was hired as an anatomic pathologist at the University of California, Davis.
Although he considers himself to be a general pathologist, he has special interests in orthopedic, oral and endocrine pathology. His research is feline focused, his UCD research group is working towards a better understanding of feline infectious peritonitis and feline immunodeficiency virus pathogenesis and treatments.
He also has a research program focused on a gene therapy approach to cats with chronic renal failure-associated nonregenerative anemia.

Balance Screenings with UCHealth Aspen ClubWednesday, April 16, 2025, 9am - 12pmBalance screenings are brought to you by UCHealth's Aspen Club, in partnership with CSU's Center for Healthy Aging.
These free screenings are performed by physical and occupational therapists, will assess your fall risk using the STEADI (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, & Injuries) Initiative tools and protocols. Balance and fall prevention strategies, programs, and resources will be shared based on your results.

* For easiest access to the check-in table for balance screenings, attendees should use the west entrance of the Health and Medical Center.

Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creativity (CURC)Thursday, April 17, 2025, 9am - 5pmThe Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creativity is an annual event held in April that showcases the creativity and scholarship of undergraduate students across various disciplines. The showcase culminates in a closing ceremony that recognizes all participants and honors award winners from events throughout the year.
CURC 2025 will be held on April 17, 2025 in the Lory Student Center ballrooms.
Students from all majors are encouraged to submit their work through one of the eight categories this year: Research Posters, Community Engaged Poster, Oral Presentation, Visual Art, Written Work, Film Submissions, and Performing Art.

"How to Talk to your Doc – Health Care Communication to Get the Care you Need”

No matter what the setting, healthcare interactions are complex for everyone involved. How can you as a patient be your own best advocate to receive the care you need? This interactive workshop will equip you with four communication skills—agenda setting, open-ended inquiry, asking permission, and summary—to enhance conversations with your healthcare providers. We will define each communication skill, highlight what can be gained, and generate questions and phrases for practical use. Then we will practice the skills with engaging exercises, so you can implement them during your next healthcare visit.
